Indian Taco
- A traditional favorite most often associated with Fry Bread.
Topped with the right ingredients, an Indian Taco can be a
meal all by itself. Prepare Little Chief Fry Bread as directed
forming the dough into a 6 inch patty approx. 1/2" thick.
Fry in 375 degree oil until golden brown. You will also need:
2 lbs. Ground beef or bison
2 cans Kidney beans
1 Packet taco seasoning
½ Cup water
Onions, tomatoes, lettuce or other vegetables of your choice
Salsa and Sour Cream
Shredded Cheddar Cheese
Brown meat until thoroughly cooked. Add taco seasoning, beans
and water. Stir and simmer for 15 minutes. Spoon meat mixture
onto Little Chief Fry Bread, add cheese, lettuce, tomatoes,
onions, salsa and sour cream as desired. This recipe will
make about 6 complete tacos.

Fry Bread Pizza - A
great twist on the Indian Taco recipe is to prepare your bread
as a pizza pie. Prepare Little Chief Fry Bread Mix as directed
and using approx. 1/3 of the dough, roll it out approx. 12
inches across and 1/2 inch thick. Place the dough on a non-stick
cooking sheet, rub lightly with vegetable oil or butter and
bake in the oven until the top just begins to brown (about
7-10 minutes at 350 degrees).
While the bread is still warm, spread
with tomato sauce and top with your favorite pizza ingedients.
Some of our favorite toppings are sausage, pepperoni, Canadian
bacon, mushrooms, black olives, green peppers and a mixture
of cheddar, mozzarella and provolone cheeses spread liberally
on top.
Return the pie to the oven and toast
until the cheese bubbles (approx. 15-18 mins. at 350 degrees).
One 12 inch pizza serves 3-5 people and can be a meal all
by itself.

Fry Bread Cheese Sticks
- Mix Little Chief Fry
Bread Mix as directed. Place 2 - 3 tablespoons of fry bread
dough on a well floured surface, pat dough into a 3 - 4 inch
round patty.
Place mozzarella or your favorite cheese
onto fry bread and roll into an oblong shape, making sure
to seal the ends and sides tightly. Cook in 375 degree oil
until fry bread is golden brown on all sides. This will make
the best cheese sticks you've ever tasted.
For a variation on this old favorite,
try rolling the dough around a Little Smoky Sausage or small
hot dog for heart "Pigs in a Blanket". Be sure to
provide your favorite dipping sauce regardless of what you
stuff the bread with. This is an appetizer sure to make your
guest's mouths water!

Salad Croutons - With
more people trying to eat lighter and healthier, salad is
becoming a staple as a meal and not just an appetizer. Add
fry bread to this light dish to not only add color but crunch
and flavor.
Roll the fry bread into small round
balls and fry to a nice golden brown. While the bread is still
hot, roll in Italian or garlic spices and allow to cool. These
flavorful "fry bread croutons" make a great addition
to any salad.
A salad can also be prepared in a bread
bowl made entirely from the dough. Turn a 6-inch oven safe
bowl upside down on a cookie sheet to create a mold for your
bread bowl. Pat out the dough into a thin patty large enough
to cover the bowl. Spray the bowl's surface with non-stick
cooking spray and form the dough over the top, pressing down
to ensure it takes shape. Brush the outside of the dough with
butter, egg wash or vegetable oil and bake at 375 degrees
for 7-10 minutes. Add salad, drizzle with your favorite dressing
and enjoy!

Fry Bread Pancake -
Pancakes are a nice variation
on the fry bread theme. Because of their bread-like structure,
these pancakes are thicker and more fluffy than standard pancakes.
Pancake preparation is done a little
differently than the standard bread dough. First, place the
entire contents of the box in a large mixing bowl. Add 3 cups
milk, 1 egg and stir until the dough becomes a thin, pourable
batter. Add more milk or flour if necessary to obtain the
desired thickness. For a flavorful addition, add a teaspoon
of vanilla extract to the batter before cooking. You can also
add chocolate chips, banana slices, blueberries or anything
else you can think of to the batter to add color and flavor.
Spoon the fry bread batter onto a 350
degree griddle or frying pan and cook until golden brown on
each side. Grilling in a light layering of vegetable oil will
give the cakes a nice crunchy shell . Top with fresh peaches,
strawberries or warm syrup (chokecherry is our favorite!).
You won't go back to that old boxed pancake mix again.

Chocolate Stuffed Fry
Bread - Stuffing fry
bread with chocolate makes a wonderful dessert that is surprisingly
easy, yet wonderfully delicious.
Roll out your fry bread dough, laying
pieces of your favorite chocolate in the center. Fold over
the edges and seal tightly before frying. For variety, use
not only chocolate but combine caramel, peanut butter or nuts
to give the chocolate extra zing.
After frying, you can top the stuffed
chocolate roll with chokecherry syrup, caramel sauce and /
or whipped cream. Be sure to let it cool before eating as
the chocolate gets very hot.
Another twist to this dessert is to
add either fresh fruit or canned fruit filling to the dough
before frying. Combine this with the chocolate or use the
fruit by itself, either way it makes an awesome dessert that
is a great finish to your meal.

Cream Cheese Filled
Tart and Fry Bread Dessert Pizza Fry
bread served as a dessert is delicious and appetizing. Two
of our favorite recommendations are fry bread as a fruit pizza
or stuffed cream cheese tart.
To creat a pizza, prepare the fry bread
as you would an Indian Taco, forming it into 6-inch patties.
After frying, allow it to cool and spread with sweetened cream
cheese and top with your choice of fruit, nuts or berries.
Cut into slices and serve with whipped cream or icing. A great
finish to any meal!
For the cream cheese filled tarts,
first flatten a 6-inch piece of fry bread dough to a thin
wafer. Next, fold the dough over 3 tablespoons of sweetened
cream cheese filling that has been chilled in the fridge.
Seal the edges securely to keep the filling from oozing out
during frying. After frying top with another thin layer of
cream cheese, fruit and whipped cream. A truly sensational
dessert.

Fry Bread Nuggets -
Prepare fry bread as
directed. Drop teaspoon size balls of dough into 375 degree
oil until fry bread is golden brown on each side.
Serve with whipped honey butter, maple
syrup or your favorite jelly. For a donut like treat, roll
the hot bread in powdered sugar, cinnamon or plain sugar.
Rolling pieces of fruit or nuts into
the dough before frying, makes for crunchy, sweet snack.
For a not so sweet appetizer, try wrapping
the dough around sirloin steak tips and cooking as directed
above. If you prefer your meat more well done, lightly brown
the meat before wrapping. Dipped in your favorite steak sauce,
this is a great way to start a meal.

Fry Bread Pushers and
Bread Loaf - Prepare
fry bread dough as directed. Before frying, cut dough into
triangles and place in 375 degree oil. Fry on each side until
golden brown. Serve with your favorite stew, chili, roast
or spaghetti.
Another feature is to serve the bread
as a loaf. Roll out the dough into a small loaf about 6 inches
long, 2-3 inches wide and approximately 1 inch thick. Place
in 375 degree oil and fry on each side until golden brown.
Make sure the middle of the bread is done and not doughy.
Slice the bread into thin slices and
serve warm with honey butter or spread with garlic butter
and Italian seasonings. Great with pasta or lasagna.
Or try jalapeno loaf...Insert small
pieces of jalapeno peppers into the dough before frying and
spread with butter when cooked. Makes a great accompaniment
to a Mexican meal.
